First gen Avalon, especially the facelifted ones. Cheap, roomy
reliability.

Its like the a Camry engineer took a cab ride once in a crown vic in a trip to the US and convinced his bosses that Toyota should do something like that because he saw so many it must be a popular car in America.

The problem is the Crown Vic was RWD. As were the Avalon’s predecessor and its JDM equivalents.

Counterpoint: the Avalon deprived the US of literally the greatest Toyota sedan of all time

Comfy, but the lightest most numb steering this side of a malaise era Oldsmobile.

The Avalon, to me, is what would happen if you took a Camry, sanded off all the edges, and stuffed it full of vallium.

I like those, and that generation of Camry they're based on.

I like the larger Crowns better. Oh and hardtop is a must.

shame really cause it’d be a nice looking ride if it weren’t for that gaping wide grille

See, I’d agree with you, but the Aristo/GS was the same chassis as the Crown and I like their looks better. Plus we obviously got them here (though not the best version).

The preceding rear-driven Cressida was cooler though.
Japan also kept the 2JZ-powered
replacement for itself.
If we’re restricted to mid-90s and US market cars only, then there’s always this.
The first gen Avalon, as good as it is, will always be overshadowed by these cars.
